A Day Trip to Alampur Jogulamba Temple
A Day Trip to Alampur Jogulamba Temple — 4 October 2k25
There are days when the journey feels destined to begin even before the alarm rings — and this was one of them.
My alarm was set for 4 AM, but somehow, my eyes opened at 3:59 AM, as if the road to Alampur itself had whispered, “Wake up, it’s time.”
After a refreshing head bath, I packed my essentials — a spare pair of clothes, offerings for the goddess, and a heart full of excitement. By 5 AM, an auto was booked, humming through the sleepy streets of Hyderabad toward Kacheguda Railway Station.
The train, scheduled for 6:05 AM, of course carried the classic Indian-Railways charm — a casual 15-minute delay. Finally, we were on our way, watching the city fade into the morning horizon.
🚉 From Rails to Roads
By 10:10 AM, we reached Kurnool Railway Station, since there was no direct halt at Alampur or Jogulamba. A quick shared-auto ride brought us to the Kurnool Bus Stand, where after a little waiting and chaos, we boarded a bus to Alampur around 11 AM.
Because of the free-bus scheme for women, the bus was absolutely packed — a lively mix of chatter, devotion, and shared patience. After a bumpy but cheerful ride, we reached Alampur Bus Stand at 12:20 PM.
🌊 The Sacred Bath and Divine Darshan
The temple is just a short walk from the bus stand. Our first stop was the river, where the cool water washed away every trace of the journey’s fatigue. Then we headed straight to the temple for Sheegra Darshanam tickets (₹100 each), carrying coconuts and a lemon garland as offerings.
It was Navratri’s long weekend days, and the crowd reflected the festival’s fervour — vibrant, restless, and full of faith. The darshan took about 1 hour 30 minutes, but every minute spent inching forward brought us closer to the sanctum’s peace.
Receiving prasadam afterward was another pilgrimage on its own — the queue long, the crowd pressing, yet everyone smiling in devotion. Finally, we had the divine blessings of Goddess Jogulamba and Lord Shiva as Brahmeshwara.
🍛 Hunger & Haste
By the time we stepped out, it was already 3 PM, and the Anna Prasadam counter had closed. Hungry but content, we found a small hotel near the temple and finished lunch by 3:30 PM — bliss in the form of simple food after a spiritual afternoon.
Then came the day’s comic twist — our return train to Hyderabad was actually at 3:35 PM from Jogulamba Station, but we thought it was at 4:20 PM!
Panic turned into a sprint — we jumped into an auto, and our driver became our unexpected hero. The train arrived at 4:01 PM, and we boarded it literally one minute before departure. Sometimes, even Indian Railways tests your faith differently! 😄
🌙 Journey Back Home
The train chugged through the twilight, and we reached Kacheguda Station by 10 PM, a bit delayed but filled with the calm of the divine. A final auto ride home by 10:30 PM, and our one-day spiritual adventure came to a peaceful close.
As I lay down that night, the sound of temple bells and the cool river breeze still echoed in my mind — a reminder that journeys of faith are as much about timing and chaos as they are about grace and gratitude.
